I had never imagined that 10 years after its first edition, GATEWAY TO AMERICA will still continue to be popular and that I would endeavor to revise this publication. Insistent public demand, continued reader interest and major changes in US immigration laws, effective 1991 created atmospherics for revision and INDO-AMERICAN SOCIETY gave me the motivation to work in the direction of updating this work. As in the past, Messrs. Kaye, Phulwani and Ms Jinx Akerkar cooperated in editing chapters on US visas to fine-tune the final product, for which I express gratitude. Mr Thomas Furey, Chief of visa section, American Consulate was kind enough to give me valuable suggestions in relevant chapters. I appreciate his cooperation. I am very much thankful to the staff of INDO-AMERICAN SOCIETY, particularly Mr K M Madhavan, who lent able support in updating certain portions of the book. Ms S Pinto and Ms R Hiranandani assisted me in finalizing certain chapters. This revision would have been impossible without financial support by corporations who contributed towards the goodwill of Indo-American relations to which this work is dedicated. I am most grateful to them. I am indebted to my wife Asha for her help in final proofreading.
A special feature of this revised work is several questions and answers given at the end of chapters on visa, which, I am sure, interested persons would find valuable.
